Temples In Haridwar

Haridwar is famous for its temples and places of religious interests.There are lot of religious places that showcase the story behind hinduism as well as importance of this city to hindus.Every temple is significant to hindu culture and has a story behind it. Some of the important temples in Haridwar are Mansa Devi Temple, Pawan Dham Temple, Parmeshwar Mahadev Temple, Chanda Devi, Daksha Mahadev Temple, Bharat Mata Mandir, Doodhadhari Barfani Temple, Bilvkeshwar Mahadev Temple, Neeleshwar Mahadev Temple and Maa Kali Temple.

Chandi Devi Temple (Mandir)
The temple of Chanda Devi atop the Neel Parvat on the other bank of river Ganga was constructed in 1929 A.D. by the king of Kashmir- Suchat Singh . It is 3 kms. trek from Chandighat . Legend has it that the army chief Chanda-Munda of a local demon King Shumbh- Nishumbha was killed by goddess Chandi here after which the place got the name Chandi Devi . It is believed that the main statue was established by the Adi Shankracharya in 8th century A.D. One can reach here by Trolley through ropeway or on foot.

Mansa Devi Temple (Mandir)
Mata mansa devi mandir is situated in west part of Haridwar.It is on top of the Bilv Parvat.It can be reached either by foot or by the ropeways. The temple is quite old.The starting point of the ropeway or the pedasterian way is 2 Km from the Haridwar bus and railway station. Ropeways are used to reach temples of Mata Mansa Devi and Mata Chandi Devi.


Har Ki Pairi Ganga Ji Temple (Mandir)
This is an ancient temple of Maya Devi the Adhisthatri deity of Haridwar, known as one of the Siddhpeethas. Said to be the place where the heart and navel of goddess Sati had fallen.

Maya Devi Temple (Mandir)
This sacred Ghat was constructed by King Vikramaditya in memory of his brother Bhartrihari. It is believed that Bhartrihari eventually came to Haridwar to meditate by the banks of holy Ganga. When he died, his brother constructed a Ghat in his name which later came to be known as Hari-Ki-Pari. This sacred bathing ghat is also known as Brahmakund. The reflection of golden hues of floral diyas in the river Ganga is the most enchanting sight in the twilight during the Ganga Arti ceremony . Attending the Ganga Arti which is performed here

Pawan Dham Temple (Mandir)

Daksha Mahadev Temple (Mandir)
The ancient temple of Daksha Mahadev is situated in the south Kankhal town .The mythological story about this place is that King Daksha Prajapati, father of Sati (Lord Shiva 's first wife ) performed yagya at this place. Daksha Prajapati did not invite Lord Shiva and Sati felt insulted . Therefore she burnt herself in the yagya Kund . This incident provoked the disciples and followers of Mahadev who killed King Daksha, but later on Lord Mahadev brought him back to life. Daksha Mahadev temple is thus a tribute to this legend.

Parmeshwar Mahadev Temple (Mandir)
The Parmeshwar Mahadev Temple is located at a distance of 4 kilometers from the main Haridwar city in Uttaranchal, India. This temple has a huge stone lingam that has been made of mercury.

Bharat Mata Mandir (Temple)
As is evident from the name itself, the Bharat Mata Temple enshrines the spirit of Bharat Mata or Mother India. It stands in rememberance of the Indian freedom fighters who deserve all the love and respect. It was Swami Satyamitranand Giri who set up the temple whereas its inauguration was done by none other than Smt Indira Gandhi, the former prime minister of India. Bharat Mata Temple has eight stories; each single storey stands for a particular theme.

Doodhadhari Barfani Temple (Mandir)
The temple is visited both for its spiritual significance and architecture. Occupying a position in the Doodhadhari Barfani Ashram, the temple features a number of smaller temples inside the complex. These temples remain dedicated to different gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. Hanuman Mandir and Ram Sita Mandair are also located inside the temple complex.

Bilvkeshwar Mahadev Temple (Mandir)
Shri Bilvkeshwar mahadev mandir is situated in the valley of Bilv parvat (bilv hill).Bilv is a tree which is quite sacred to Hindus.Its leaves represent the three eyes of Lord Shiva.It is the place where Mata Parvati worshiped for Lord Shiva for some 10,000 years.After completion of which she was married to Lord Shiva.The temple is situated near the haridwar railway station.

Neeleshwar Mahadev Temple (Mandir)
Shri Neeleshwar mahadev Mandir is quite old temple,which is said to be built in Sat-Yuga.This temple is situated in the valleys of Neel parvat or the Blue hill and is the temple of Lord Shiva.

Maa Kali Temple (Mandir)
Maa Kali Mandir is situted in a cave just 800 m east of Har ki Pauri.It is one of the oldest temples of Haridwar. "Haridwar is home of countless temples. Some old, some new. Each and every temple is special in some or another way "
