History In Haridwar

Haridwar is an ancient city in the state of Uttarakhand in India. It is the most sacred city in India for the multiple pilgrimage sites. This holy town is a treasure trove of India's complex culture and the ancient civilization. It is said in Hindu Mythos that the professionals of Hindu religions named it Haridwar. The place is also a doorway of Dev Bhoomi and Char Dham the four most places in Haridwar for worship- Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnathji and Badrinath. The site is located in the foothill of Shivaliks. The ancient pilgrimage city of Haridwar is also mentioned in many Purans, Upanishads, Mahabharata and in the Vanaparva chapter too.

According to the Archaeological findings it has been proved that terracotta culture had an existence here during 1700 B.C. and 1800 B.C. The chronicles of a renowned Chinese traveler Huan Tsang acknowledge this region as "Mo Yu Lo" at the time of 629 AD. The next was the Turkish invader Timur Lang on 13th January 1399 and Marched here with military force to show occupation of the Haridwar city. At this area the sage Dhaumya says Yudhisthira about the pilgrimages (Tirthas) of India including Haridwar. Afterwards in the Satya Yuga it is very popular that the King Bhagiratha brought the holy River Ganga to Earth to purify the spirits of his 60,000 relatives.

Thomas Coryant was the first man with written evidence of the town; name Haridwar during the reign of Mughal king Jahangi. This revered site has been memorized in the peoples and in the worshipers mind from the Buddha's period to British arrival in 1800s. After the reaching the British the Bhimgoda Dam was constructed in 1840. And after the 28 years of construction of Bhimgoda Dam the Union Municipality of Haridwar was constituted adding the villages of Mayapur and Kankhal. At first in 1886 the railway track was tracked in Haridwar. In next few years this railway track was extended to Dehradun in 1900.

Navratna PSU was the first instance of contemporary civilization which is also known as Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL). Haridwar is the town where the holy Ganga River first emerges touching the planes. And flows in a series of channel separately here.

There are some other seasonal streams like Pathri Rao, Ranipur Rao, Begam Nadi and Harnaui Rao etc. A major area of Uttarakhand is forested. Haridwar district occupies an area of 2360 square kilo meter in the southwestern part of Uttarakhand in India. Haridwar is stands at a height of 2627 meter above sea level. The maximum temperature in summer is 35.6 degree Celsius and minimum is 16.9 degree, in winter max. is 28.3 degree and min. is 10.6 degree Celsius. Haridwar is the place where people from across the world visit for pilgrimage and take a holy dip into the holy river Ganga. Many of the lords did their penance here.
